IFA 2026: Wearable Exoskeletons, Modular Phones, and Conversational AI Fridges Unveiled

The IFA 2026 technology exhibition in Berlin concluded after drawing approximately 220,000 visitors to the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. The event showcased an extensive array of consumer electronics, smart home appliances, and wearable robotics. Wearable Robotics and Mobility

The Hypershell Halo is an all-terrain wearable exoskeleton designed to support the entire kinetic chain of the lower body. Weighing 2.6 kg due to its aviation-grade titanium and carbon fiber frame, the device features powerful motors and a proprietary motion algorithm called HyperIntuition. This system adjusts assistance, braking, and load distribution in real-time for walking, running, mountain climbing, or carrying heavy loads. Unlike previous models sold in Israel, such as the Hypershell X Pro S and Hypershell X Ultra S which only reach the knees, the Halo extends down to the shins. The device is currently in pre-sale, with an expected retail price exceeding $2,300.

Advanced Charging and Modular Smartphones

UGREEN introduced the MagFlow Pro, a Qi2-standard 25W magnetic power bank featuring an active liquid cooling system powered by a micro-pump. The system circulates coolant in a closed loop, reducing device and battery temperatures by up to 15°C (18°F) compared to standard magnetic chargers. This prevents thermal throttling, ensuring continuous charging at maximum power while protecting battery health.

TECNO showcased the world's thinnest modular smartphone, measuring just 4.9 mm in thickness. The device won the IFA Gold Award for Technical Innovation. Built as a seamless, waterproof, and dustproof unibody without ports, it utilizes a magnetic array with Pogo-pin connectors on the back. This platform allows users to attach up to ten different functional magnetic modules that draw power directly from the phone to enable local AI processing and advanced photography. Another smartphone innovation, the RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro, won an exhibition innovation award. It features a detachable 39-gram action camera that attaches magnetically to the back of the rugged, military-grade phone. Users can detach the camera, mount it to a helmet or bicycle, and control it while viewing a live feed on the smartphone screen. The device is scheduled for release in October at an estimated price of $999.

Smart Security and Autonomous Home Cleaning

Reolink presented the OMVI 2i, a completely wireless outdoor security camera with a dual-view system. It combines a fixed upper 4K (8MP) lens for panoramic monitoring with a motorized lower 3K (5MP) lens capable of 355-degree horizontal and 50-degree vertical rotation. Its built-in AI model tracks people, animals, and vehicles. Equipped with a 10,000mAh battery and a 6W solar panel, the manufacturer claims 30 minutes of daily sunlight provides enough power for continuous operation.

In the robotic vacuum sector, several major brands unveiled new flagship models:

• ECOVACS introduced the DEEBOT X12S, featuring localized cleaning foam spraying for targeted stain removal. It includes the OmniCyclone auto-empty station, which operates without disposable bags, reducing ongoing costs and allergen exposure. It features an integrated AI assistant, an upgraded roller washing system, and high suction power.

• Roborock debuted its first robotic pool cleaner, the RockAqua P1. It features a suction rate of 6,800 gallons per hour (GPH), a 4-liter debris container with dual filtration (180 and 70 microns), and up to 3.5 hours of battery life. The cordless robot cleans pool floors, walls, and waterlines autonomously, using an AI camera for obstacle avoidance and an automatic waterline parking mechanism for easy retrieval.

• MOVA showcased 22 new products, including the TactiPercept system for robotic vacuums, which uses 128 pressure sensors and visual recognition to navigate obstacles. The company also revealed the AstraX robotic lawnmower, equipped with a robotic arm for moving obstacles, watering, and fruit picking, alongside the Knot 80 robotic hand with 11 degrees of freedom.

• Dreame highlighted the Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete robotic vacuum, featuring a 180°C steam system for tough stains, an extendable washing roller, 40,000Pa suction power, and the OmniSight 4.0 AI navigation system. Dreame also entered the camera market with the LEAPTIC Cube, a wearable mini-camera weighing 55.9 grams that supports up to 8K video recording.

• Narwal marked its tenth anniversary by introducing the Narwal Flow 2 robotic vacuum with 31,000Pa suction and a continuous hot-water washing system (FlowWash), alongside the budget-friendly Freo 20 and Freo 20 Edge models. They also introduced the lightweight V50 Cube cordless stick vacuum (1.4 kg) with a compact auto-empty station.

Conversational AI in Home Appliances

LG demonstrated the next generation of its LG SIGNATURE refrigerator, which incorporates a Large Language Model (LLM) for conversational AI. The appliance features a 6.8-inch LCD screen and supports LG's AI-driven cooling management system. The AI Fresh technology monitors temperature fluctuations based on usage patterns and pre-cools the refrigerator up to two hours before expected door openings. The system is designed to provide recipes based on current inventory and dietary preferences.
