A senior military official stated that Hamas continues to seek opportunities to abduct soldiers as leverage, noting that the IDF actively works to thwart such threats along the Gaza border. According to the official, the military maintains continuous defensive and offensive operations following three years of conflict.

Defensive Lines and Targeted Strikes

Since the ceasefire in October 2025, the military has conducted over 700 targeted eliminations, ranging from squad commanders to high-ranking branch leaders, to prevent renewed militant buildup and attacks against troops.

"We have created a good policy that allows very wide flexibility for the command. Fifty percent is decisions of the command and the second half is required to execute," the senior official stated.

Border Security and Tunnels

Addressing underground infrastructure, the military confirmed its ongoing mission to destroy all tunnels east of the yellow line down to the last meter, neutralizing any cross-border subterranean threats immediately upon detection.

Lessons Learned from October 7

Reflecting on the failures of October 7, 2023, the official emphasized two primary adjustments:

  • Maintaining immediate and lethal operational reserves across all combat sectors.

  • Strengthening the tactical edge through improved fortification, base design, and constant readiness.

The official concluded that future stability in the region will ultimately require either a diplomatic arrangement resulting in Hamas surrendering its weapons or a decisive military operation to achieve complete demilitarization.
