IDF Prepares for Gaza City Maneuver Amid Stalled Demilitarization Talks

Amid a diplomatic deadlock between Israel, the Peace Council, and US representatives regarding the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, the IDF is preparing for a ground maneuver to capture the heart of Gaza City, where Hamas leadership and senior military commanders are hiding.
As previously reported, the proposed plan backed by the US and Gulf states involves training thousands of Fatah operatives from Gaza in Egypt to form a local police force that would replace Hamas security mechanisms. However, security and political officials in Israel oppose this initiative, causing negotiations to stall.
The Ali Taher Ridge Model
Security sources warn that if Hamas refuses to disarm and surrender control, the IDF will be forced to apply the Ali Taher Ridge model directly in Gaza City. Despite initial concerns over Lebanese government opposition and threats from Iran and Hezbollah, the political leadership and senior IDF commanders successfully executed the destruction of strategic underground infrastructure built over two decades.
"The operation, which was carried out within a month, was defined as a major success," security officials noted, recommending its replication in Gaza through targeted maneuvers to eradicate terror infrastructure and return to the Yellow Line.
Hamas Rebuilding Efforts
Since the ceasefire began, Hamas has continued to recruit and train new operatives in weapon handling, tunnel excavation, and intelligence gathering. Furthermore, Hamas forces continue to challenge IDF troops along the Yellow Line and plan attacks against soldiers, raising deep concerns within the defense establishment.
