Qatar Rejects Accusations of Financing Hamas Amid Israeli Reports
Qatar has strongly rejected allegations of financing Hamas, stating that all humanitarian aid to Gaza was channeled strictly through UN agencies and coordinated with Israeli authorities.
The Qatari International Media Office issued a sharp statement over the weekend rejecting accusations that the country funded Hamas. The statement from Doha follows recent Israeli reports regarding the cash-suitcases affair, asserting that these allegations are promoted by politicians attempting to deflect attention from domestic political failures and make Qatar a scapegoat.
In the official statement, Qatari officials clarified that they never provided funds to Hamas. Doha emphasized that aid was always directed to Palestinian civilians in Gaza, and that all financial assistance and goods, including food, passed through Israel before entering the Strip. It was further stressed that nothing was transferred directly by Qatar, and that the actual delivery of funds and equipment was carried out by UN organizations in full coordination with Israeli authorities.
Doha also noted that its aid previously received public support from Israeli leaders, emphasizing that any funding that may have reached the organization outside these approved mechanisms is in no way connected to Qatar. Qatar referred to the Israeli political system, accusing that as elections in Israel approach, the campaign against them is intensifying.
Qatar made it clear it has no interest in interfering in Israel's internal politics, but warned it will no longer remain silent in the face of false claims. The statement concluded with a Qatari commitment that no campaign will weaken Qatari support for Palestinians, and that Qatar remains committed to mediation efforts as the primary path to ending the Middle East conflict.
