Herzog and Tony Blair Discuss Stalled US Plans for Gaza Reconstruction
Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with US Peace Council envoy Tony Blair in Jerusalem to discuss stalled plans for Gaza's postwar reconstruction, amid ongoing political uncertainty and military operations.

President Isaac Herzog met on Thursday with Tony Blair, a senior official in US President Donald Trump's Peace Council, as part of Washington's ongoing diplomatic push to revive stalled plans for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Blair's visit to Israel focuses on exploring practical mechanisms to advance the initial phases of the Trump administration's postwar blueprint. Key agenda items include deploying a technocratic administrative committee to Gaza and establishing an international stabilization force, despite ongoing military operations by the Israel Defense Forces and the deadlock in indirect negotiations with Hamas.
Diplomatic sources note that the reality on the ground remains complex. While Washington presses for swift implementation, substantial obstacles persist, including Hamas's refusal to disarm and its ongoing efforts to regroup. Meanwhile, the IDF continues its intensive counterterrorism operations across the enclave.
Compounding the diplomatic and security challenges is Israel's current political deadlock following the elections for the 26th Knesset. The lack of a clear governing majority leaves Jerusalem struggling to formulate long-term strategic policies regarding the Gaza Strip, complicating Washington's push for progress.
Security officials also warn that Hamas is preparing a targeted propaganda campaign ahead of the winter season. The terror group reportedly intends to exploit weather-related hardships and infrastructure shortages to generate international pressure on Israel, aiming to curb ongoing military actions.
