Surge in Demand: Dramatic Changes at Haifa Airport
Following a significant increase in passenger traffic in the north, the Israel Airports Authority is launching an extensive development project, including a new parking facility and improved transport solutions.
Haifa Airport, which serves as a base for domestic flights (primarily to Eilat) and short-haul international flights to destinations across the Mediterranean, such as Cyprus and Greece (including via the airline Air Haifa), has become a vital hub for residents of the north.
Due to the surge in demand and the rising number of flights, the Israel Airports Authority is currently implementing an operational development plan. Construction is underway for a new parking lot with a capacity of 900 spaces, covering an area of approximately 20 dunams north of the passenger terminal.
Furthermore, the Israel Airports Authority, in cooperation with the Haifa Municipality, is exploring solutions to enhance accessibility for travelers. Among the options being considered is the launch of a high-frequency public transport line connecting parking facilities in Haifa directly to the airport.
Until these parking solutions are completed, the Israel Airports Authority has launched an information campaign urging passengers and local residents to prioritize public transport and avoid arriving by private car whenever possible to reduce congestion.
As a reminder, the company announced a significant expansion last month: starting this winter season, it plans to operate up to ten daily flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Ramon Airport.
