Hapoel Tel Aviv Edges Maccabi 3-2 to Claim Toto Cup and End 14-Year Drought
Hapoel Tel Aviv defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-2 in a dramatic Toto Cup final, ending a 14-year trophy drought and securing their first direct title against their rivals in 43 years.

Hapoel Tel Aviv ended a 14-year trophy drought on Thursday night, defeating crosstown rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-2 in a dramatic Toto Cup final at Bloomfield Stadium. The victory marked Hapoel's first silverware since winning the State Cup in 2012 under the late coach Nitzan Shirzi, and their first direct final win over Maccabi in 43 years.
A Dominant Start and Late Drama
Coached by Elyaniv Barda, Hapoel raced to a commanding 3-0 lead, overwhelming their rivals on the pitch. However, a quick brace by Dor Peretz and a costly error by goalkeeper Asaf Tzur brought Maccabi roaring back into the match, placing the 12,500 red-clad fans on edge as the game nearly slipped away in the closing minutes.
Despite the nervy finish, Hapoel held on to secure the trophy, sparking euphoric celebrations in the stands. Striker Daniel Dape played a starring role, contributing to all three goals by initiating the build-up for Roy Alkokin's opener, winning a penalty, and scoring himself.
Post-Match Tensions
Tempers flared after the final whistle, with Maccabi coach Kenny Miller reportedly clashing with Barda and team staff. Meanwhile, Hapoel players including captain Fernand Mayembo, Marcus Coco, and Falcao engaged in a heated argument with security personnel after family members were barred from accessing the pitch to celebrate.
Looking ahead, Hapoel aims to maintain its momentum as they prepare for a league fixture against Maccabi Haifa on Monday.
