If there is one thing Haim Etgar has learned over the years, it is that there is no single path in life. Today, we all know him as the face behind investigative exposes such as "Impostors" and "Exposure", and as the natural successor to Haim Hecht on "Yatzat Tzadik" (You've Been Righteous). But behind the presenter standing up to fraudsters and hidden cameras lies a fascinating career story.

Born in the United States, Etgar studied law at the College of Management and theater at Tel Aviv University, even considering becoming a lawyer, actor, or director. Yet on his way to the legal world, he discovered the stage—specifically, stand-up comedy and improvisation. He spent years honing his ability to articulate complex thoughts and connect with audiences before transitioning to television.

From Comedy Stages to Television Screens

Moving from stand-up clubs to television, Etgar started at the Sports Channel, continued as a culture reporter for "Good Evening with Guy Pines", hosted Channel 10's morning show, and contributed to programs like "Anashim". The turning point arrived nearly a decade ago through a journalistic project about a well-known Israeli personality. That project opened the door to investigative journalism, leading to the creation of formats dedicated to exposing deception and financial fraud.

The connection to the world of scams was not merely professional; it touched a deeply personal nerve. Etgar himself had been the victim of a heavy financial fraud years earlier, losing a significant portion of his savings. This personal ordeal gave him firsthand insight into the helplessness, institutional frustration, and emotional trauma experienced by victims.

The Digital Age and Modern Scams

Today, as artificial intelligence and social media make scams more sophisticated than ever, Etgar finds himself at the center of a storm. His social media channels and mobile phone have become an endless lifeline for people seeking help. From complex financial frauds to everyday grievances, every story carries significant weight for the person affected.

"Unpleasant moments and threats at various levels are part of the profession," Etgar notes. "There are people who are unhappy that you are exposing their actions. Sometimes you need security, sometimes it's uncomfortable."- Haim Etgar

Empowering the Public

Alongside his intense television work and family life in Givatayim with his wife, television editor Inbal Hertzberg, and their three children, Etgar has turned his expertise into a mission. He lectures nationwide and recently launched his new book, "The Scam: How Not to Be the Next Victim". The book provides practical tools and clear rules to help the public identify manipulative situations before they happen in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
