Haifa Port recently hosted its first-ever emergency drill aboard a container ship belonging to the global shipping line MSC, simulating a complex fire outbreak in the vessel's engine room.

The scenario required joint response teams from the Haifa Fire and Rescue Station and the port's internal emergency unit to navigate the ship's intricate multi-level structure, locate simulated casualties, and execute extraction operations under challenging maritime conditions.

Port officials emphasized that managing maritime emergencies demands specialized coordination, as firefighting inside a commercial vessel differs significantly from standard structural blazes due to restricted access routes and mobility limits.

The exercise successfully tested operational readiness and inter-agency cooperation. Port management stated that such drills strengthen emergency preparedness while ensuring the continuous and safe operation of Israel's primary maritime gateway.
