Gur Dynasty Reportedly Signals No Opposition to Eisenkot Minority Government
A Gur Hasidic source stated that Agudat Israel leader Yitzhak Goldknopf may abstain rather than oppose an Eisenkot minority government.
A senior source in the Gur Hasidic dynasty stated on Monday that instructions will be given to the chairman of Agudat Israel, MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, not to oppose the formation of a minority government led by Gadi Eisenkot.
The remarks follow a report by Amit Segal that senior figures in Agudat Israel indicated Goldknopf would not vote against such a government but would instead abstain, as part of a fracture in the political bloc with Benjamin Netanyahu. "The Rebbe of Gur wants to bring down Netanyahu at any cost. The instruction to Goldknopf will be not to oppose the establishment of an Eisenkot minority government," the source said.
The source added that Goldknopf might not be the only one acting this way, noting that MK Yisrael Eichler or other allied figures could follow suit, potentially complicating Netanyahu's efforts to block a minority government. Meanwhile, Agudat Israel issued a response stating: "Agudat Israel will not support the formation of a government and will not assist from the outside any government that fails to regularize the status of yeshiva students and enact a conscription law without sanctions and without quotas."
