An 82-year-old man has died following a violent physical altercation over a sunlounger at the popular Vouliagmeni coast along the Athenian Riviera in Greece. According to local reports, the tragic incident unfolded on Sunday morning after a dispute broke out over limited beach seating.
The Escalation of the Dispute
The victim, who was visiting the beach with his wife, arrived shortly before 10:00 AM. Facing a shortage of available sunloungers, an argument quickly escalated with an unfamiliar 76-year-old man. What began as a verbal altercation rapidly deteriorated into a physical brawl involving associates of the attacker.
In Greece, disagreements are usually expressed loudly, but not through fistfights - especially not between two elderly men. I think that is what makes this so shocking.
Medical Intervention and Arrests
During the fight, the elderly victim suffered a cardiac arrest. Bystanders attempted resuscitation using a defibrillator before an ambulance transported him to the Asklepieion Voulas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:00 AM.
