When she passed away a few months ago at a ripe old age, her grandson, Zviiki Weil, sought a meaningful way to honor her memory and continue her legacy. The result is an inspiring community initiative named "Grandma's Wheels"—a car-lending service specifically designed for reservists with families.
The rationale behind the project is simple yet rooted in a genuine field need: many families manage daily life with just a single vehicle, but when one parent is called up for reserve duty, the lack of an available car can consume precious hours from their short rest and vacation period. Traveling by public transport lengthens the journey, and renting a private car is expensive and often unjustified for just a few days. "Grandma's car is here to serve you," Zviiki shared in a post published on Monday on his Facebook account, "so you don't lose precious hours with your children, wife, and livelihood."
To maintain the vehicle's condition and allow the initiative to continue over time, several basic and accessible conditions have been set, including a symbolic price of 25 shekels per day for maintenance and insurance, a minimum driver age of 24, and a deposit of 3,000 shekels transferred via PayBox.
