Google Unveils Googlebook Laptops to Challenge Apple in Notebook Market
Google has officially announced its new Googlebook laptop series, featuring hardware from Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, and Lenovo, powered by Intel and Qualcomm chips to rival Apple.
Google has officially unveiled its new line of laptops, the Googlebook, aiming to challenge Apple in the premium notebook market. Four months after its initial teaser at Google I/O, the tech giant revealed the first five devices set to hit the market in about two weeks.
The initial lineup includes hardware from major manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, and Lenovo. All models feature at least 16GB of RAM and are powered by processors from Intel (Core Ultra 5 or Core Ultra 7) and Qualcomm (Snapdragon X Elite), with MediaTek chips expected in future releases. Each laptop is distinguished by an LED light bar on the lid glowing in Google colors, with prices ranging from $899 to $1,299, positioning them in the MacBook Air tier.
Software and Android Integration
Google is emphasizing software synergy, designing the Googlebook to serve as the ultimate laptop for Android users. The operating system integrates Material 3 Expressive, drawing from Android 17 design principles, to create a seamless connection between smartphone and PC. Settings, passwords, and networks sync automatically upon login, while the "Continue On" feature allows users to effortlessly transfer active tasks from their mobile device to the laptop.
The new laptops combine the foundation of ChromeOS with the Android technology stack, enabling native app installation and superior energy efficiency while offering 10 years of software updates.
On-Device AI Capabilities
Artificial intelligence plays a central role, powered by the on-device Gemini Nano model. This runs Gemini Intelligence to contextualize user actions across Gmail and Google Drive. Additional AI-driven tools include Magic Pointer, which executes prompts via a simple mouse shake, and Rambler, an advanced transcription tool designed to clean up filler words and generate polished text.
