Apple Releases iOS 27.2 Beta With Health Upgrades and New Bug
Apple released the first iOS 27.2 beta, skipping iOS 27.1, while introducing health app updates and Siri AI languages. Users face a persistent iCloud storage alert bug.
Apple has recently surprised the developer community by skipping an intermediate version and directly releasing the first beta of the iOS 27.2 operating system to supported iPhone devices. The unusual decision to postpone the distribution of iOS 27.1 stems from the company's desire to protect the hardware secrets of the foldable iPhone Duo, which will be delivered to buyers with this operating system. The new update brings a comprehensive overhaul to the health application, support for additional languages for the voice assistant, and a series of useful interface changes.
New Features and Enhancements
At the center of the update is the redesigned Apple Health application, which has been divided into three main tabs: Insights, Longevity, and Browse. The new Longevity tab introduces a metric called "Health Age," calculated based on maximum oxygen uptake, sleep quality, and physical activity levels. The app allows users to perform physical assessments to measure strength, balance, and flexibility directly through the iPhone camera, alongside a fresh app icon.
In addition, Apple expanded the capabilities of Siri AI to five new languages: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean. The Apple TV application on iPhones and iPads now allows the creation of separate user profiles including parental controls and age restriction, alongside a sign language translation interface in FaceTime calls. The CarPlay Ultra vehicle interface received theme customizations including gauge styles and synchronization with vehicle ambient lighting, and the alarm clock design was updated in the Clock app.
The Annoying Bug and How to Fix It
However, alongside the flashy upgrades, users who installed the official iOS 27 and iOS 27.2 beta versions are encountering an annoying bug that affects the daily user experience. As part of the glitch, the Settings app receives a permanent red badge displaying a system alert urging the user to "enable iCloud storage space." The nuisance appears arbitrarily even among users with massive amounts of available storage, such as Apple One family plan subscribers holding two terabytes of free cloud space.
User attempts to click on the notification to dismiss it lead directly to the cloud service purchase screen, but canceling the screen does not remove the red badge from the smartphone. Technology experts clarify that this is not an aggressive marketing move intended to force a paid upgrade, but rather a software glitch that confuses the local account status with the company's servers. The fact that Apple did not fix the bug in the new beta has sparked significant frustration among users who are sensitive to home screen clutter.
"As of now, there is no official settings toggle allowing users to disable the notification with a single click, but a temporary workaround has proven effective: proactively signing out of the Apple Account in the device settings and then logging back in."
This action resets the eligibility check and removes the annoying marker, though it requires re-entering account details. Developers estimate that Apple will resolve the issue in the coming days via a silent server-side update, without requiring users to download another version update.
