Givat Shmuel Water Supply Restored After Light Rail Construction Accident
A main water pipe rupture during light rail construction caused a multi-hour outage in Givat Shmuel. The municipality distributed water while crews completed repairs.
Residents of Givat Shmuel faced a major water outage on Wednesday lasting several hours after a main water pipe was ruptured during light rail construction carried out by the NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System.
The malfunction occurred near Israel Square in the city, prompting municipal authorities to respond by providing bottled water to parents, vulnerable individuals, and the elderly. The municipality stated that repairs were completed and water supply is expected to return to normal within the hour.
Despite official assurances, local residents expressed frustration over the lack of communication. Noy, a local resident, described the uncertainty: “The municipality told us: ‘If you have drinking water, use it; if not, we will bring you bottles. Other than that, we have no timeline for a fix and you will have to manage.’” Another resident reported having to purchase multiple packs of water independently to sustain their household during the disruption.
