Gilat Shares Slide 23% in October Despite USD 46 Million in New Contracts
Gilat Satellite Networks shares plunged 23% in October despite securing USD 46 million in new contracts and robust Q2 revenue growth, driven by index rebalancing fears and rising short interest.

Gilat Satellite Networks has emerged as one of the most disappointing equities on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, plunging despite a flurry of lucrative contract announcements. Between October 1 and October 23, the company's share price tumbled by approximately 23%, extending its year-to-date losses to around 43%.
Multi-Million Dollar Contracts and Financial Growth
At the beginning of October, Gilat shares traded at roughly 2,968 agorot, but dropped to 2,295 agorot by October 23, including an 8% single-day slump on October 12. These declines appear paradoxical given the strong pipeline of orders announced during the same period. On October 5, Gilat secured a USD 28 million contract in Peru, followed two days later by orders exceeding USD 10 million, and an 8 million dollar deal from the US Department of Defense on October 8. In total, the company accumulated over USD 46 million in new business within four days.
Financial results similarly reflect robust underlying performance. In the second quarter of 2026, Gilat's revenues grew by 17% year-on-year to reach USD 122.7 million. Adjusted EBITDA surged by 31% to USD 15.4 million, demonstrating solid operational profitability.
Market Pressures and Short Interest
Analysts attribute the sell-off to a combination of technical factors and shifting market sentiment. Capital market reports indicate that Gilat is expected to be removed from the TA-90 index, triggering mandatory sell-offs by exchange-traded funds and index-tracking funds, with estimated forced sales reaching NIS 257 million.
Simultaneously, short interest on the stock has expanded notably, reflecting mounting bearish bets. Furthermore, investors may be repricing growth expectations, as contract wins do not instantly translate into realized revenues or profit margins.
Gilat's next major milestone will arrive on November 10 with the release of its third-quarter financial reports, where investors will closely scrutinize growth trajectories and management forecasts.
