The Rise of the Far-Right and Political Fallout
In Berlin, the left-wing Die Linke party won a plurality of votes, positioning itself to secure the city's mayoral office. Chancellor Merz labeled the election outcome a disaster, vowing to press ahead with his economic reform agenda despite mounting internal friction. State Premier Manuela Schwesig criticized Merz's stance in an interview with the ARD broadcaster, demanding greater humility from the federal leadership.
"Voters did not pay attention in history lessons. We have been in a similar situation before, nearly 100 years ago," said a resident of Schwerin.
