A wave of violent riots that reached Germany over the weekend has triggered a sharp political debate within the federal government in Berlin. Amid heavy property damage, a fierce public dispute erupted among cabinet ministers regarding the identity of the perpetrators.

One of the ministers adopted a firm stance, directly blaming extreme-left activists and rioters with a migrant background for the violence. Conversely, the defense minister rejected these definitions, stating that he does not endorse such an analysis.

Data collected across the country indicates an exceptionally high number of casualties and arrests. Over 500 police officers were injured throughout Germany during the weekend events, which included burning barricades, attacks on law enforcement, and widespread looting in several major cities, with Frankfurt serving as the primary flashpoint.

Against the backdrop of threats regarding additional demonstrations in the coming days, Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt clarified that the police will maintain massive deployment and focus on targeted monitoring of the rioting groups. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities across various federal states announced they are considering further strict legal measures to prevent similar outbreaks of violence in the future.
