Haifa Court Orders Immediate Release of Groom and Two Others Arrested Over Wedding Gunfire
A Haifa court ordered the immediate release of a groom, his father, and a wedding DJ who were arrested over suspected celebratory gunfire in Fureidis due to a lack of evidence.
A Haifa Magistrate's Court has rejected a police request to extend the detention of three men arrested over suspected celebratory gunfire at a wedding in Fureidis.
Court Proceedings and Lack of Evidence
The groom, 31-year-old Dr. Musa Hasadiya, his father Noaman Hasadiya, 55, and the event's DJ, 31-year-old Muhammad Mahajaneh, were arrested on Friday afternoon. Police claimed they acted on intelligence and complaints from neighboring Zichron Yaakov regarding gunfire in the air.
However, during the hearing, police representatives were forced to admit that officers found no shell casings or other physical evidence of gunfire at the scene. Judge Percha Jubran Miller ruled that "no reasonable suspicion exists linking the suspects to the offenses attributed to them" and ordered their immediate release.
Impact on the Wedding and Subsequent Appeal
The defense attorney, Adv. Muhammad Muwassi, strongly criticized the police conduct, calling it a recurring phenomenon of arbitrary arrests based on unverified reports. Due to the arrests, the wedding celebration in Ar'ara took place without the groom, leaving the family in deep distress.
"You see the bride crying, her mother crying. Who could have eat in such a situation?" a wedding guest told reporters outside the courthouse.
Although the police filed an urgent appeal to the Haifa District Court, Judge Inas Salama ordered the immediate release of the three men ahead of the formal appeal hearing, drawing applause from supporters gathered outside.
