France Deploys 70,000 Security Personnel Amid Severe Public Order Risks
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced the deployment of 70,000 security personnel nationwide, citing severe risks to public order during Halloween weekend amid calls for radical protests.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez warned on Friday that the upcoming weekend poses "extremely serious risks" to public order, prompting authorities to deploy approximately 70,000 security personnel across France.
Speaking to reporters, Nunez stated that extremist groups and radical factions had used social media to organize unauthorized gatherings coinciding with Halloween celebrations. The minister vowed that the security forces' response would be "extremely firm," utilizing the massive deployment to secure major thoroughfares, transportation hubs, and prevent masked groups from concealing their identities during nighttime assemblies.
The protests draw participants from various radical groups and individuals associated with the yellow vest movement, who called for demonstrations in major French cities starting at 8:00 PM. This heightened security posture follows large-scale demonstrations last weekend involving some 410,000 people, where a robust police presence successfully prevented a recurrence of widespread looting and vandalism seen earlier in October.
These security measures unfold against a backdrop of escalating social and political tensions in France, fueled by stalled negotiations between the government, student unions, and labor organizations. Amid mounting economic pressures and cost-of-living concerns, union leaders have announced plans to escalate demonstrations on October 31, followed by a nationwide general strike on November 5.
