Israel Issues France Travel Advisory as Major Riots and Closures Loom
Amid violent unrest across France, Israel's Foreign Ministry issued a travel advisory urging citizens to exercise extreme caution. Major French museums and luxury stores are closing ahead of planned weekend demonstrations.
Amid ongoing unrest across France, the Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a travel advisory on Friday, urging Israeli citizens in the country to exercise extreme caution and heightened vigilance due to escalating public disorder. The warning comes amid fears of renewed demonstrations and clashes, particularly ahead of October 24 and November 5, 2026. The ministry advised citizens to avoid all protest sites, large gatherings, and areas experiencing civil unrest, even during seemingly peaceful demonstrations, and to immediately steer clear of conflict zones.
Authorities in France are bracing for significant demonstrations over the weekend against the country's economic conditions, which threaten to reignite violent riots. In response, major cultural institutions, museums, and luxury boutiques announced closures or partial operations for Saturday. Among the closed venues are the Louvre Museum, the Orsay Museum, the Grand Palais, the Picasso Museum, the Orangerie, the Art Basel Paris fair, the Palace of Versailles, and luxury flagships such as Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that authorities will ban unauthorized protests organized by groups deemed illegitimate, pointing to radical left-wing factions. Cities such as Marseille and Lyon announced complete bans on Saturday demonstrations, though activists may challenge the decisions in court. The nationwide protests are spearheaded by the UNEF student union and the Yellow Vests movement, following a violent mobilization last week that resulted in over 2,700 arrests and nearly 1,000 injured police officers.
