Flydubai Flight 1073: New Kan Documentary Relives Harrowing Near-Disaster
Kan broadcasts a new documentary by Eyal Dez tracing Flydubai Flight 1073, featuring real-time footage and testimonies of 174 Israelis who survived a harrowing ordeal.

Kan Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation brings a gripping, nerve-wracking story to the forefront in a new documentary film broadcasting on Kan 11 and Kan BOX. The film traces Flydubai Flight 1073, an event that goes far beyond an aviation disaster averted at the very last moment, unfolding instead as a tale of heroism and resourcefulness involving 174 Israeli passengers from diverse backgrounds who were forced to find a common language and a singular goal: to stay alive.
At the center of the work stands director and documentary creator Eyal Dez, who was himself on the plane alongside his 75-year-old father, Yacov. Just days after the dramatic landing in Israel, Dez embarked on a personal journey and deep investigation following the passengers who shared those harrowing moments with him. Through their eyes, he attempts to understand what truly happened inside the aircraft when it was within a hair's breadth of crashing, what atmosphere prevailed during those turbulent minutes, and what massive failure led to this nearly fatal situation in the first place.
The film offers an exclusive, unprecedented glimpse into the event using documentary materials revealed for the first time: real-time video footage captured inside the plane and on the ground in Saudi Arabia, alongside chilling new testimonies from the passengers. The creation weaves human drama together with probing questions about aviation failures, demonstrating how a group of complete strangers transformed into a cohesive community that took its destiny into its own hands in the face of imminent danger.
Eyal Dez is among Israel's prominent documentary filmmakers, with acclaimed works previously broadcast on Kan including Something Spicy, Ten Days in October, and I Will Hide My Face, alongside producing the successful films Cult and Tomorrow is Already Past, which have achieved recognition and representation at festivals in Israel and worldwide. The new film is produced by Beyond Creative, led by Yoav Leshem.
