Three years after the October 7 attacks, the head of the IDF Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor, addressed a memorial ceremony in the Eshkol Regional Council, acknowledging the military's failure to protect the nation on that day. Addressing residents, bereaved families, and former hostages, Asor emphasized that the trust placed in the army was broken, but out of those fractures, the nation has risen united and determined.

Warning to Hamas and Ongoing Restoration

During the ceremony, Asor issued a stern warning to Hamas, stating that any attempt to attack IDF soldiers or Negev residents will be met with a sharp and powerful response. The regional council paid tribute to 259 victims from the area who lost their lives, while highlighting signs of renewal, including the birth of over 750 babies in Eshkol since the tragedy.

"We failed in our mission to protect the country, to guard the home. The trust you placed in us was broken. And out of these fractures we have risen. As one people, hurting yet determined," said Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor.

Community Resilience in Eshkol

Eshkol Regional Council head Michal Uziyahu spoke about the painful yet persistent path toward recovery and reconstruction. Communities across the council are witnessing rebuilding efforts, new neighborhood inaugurations, and an influx of young families and participants in preparatory programs, symbolizing enduring hope and community strength.
