Nahal Oz Hero: Captain Eden Nimri Fought Under Fire to Save Soldiers
Captain Eden Nimri commanded and fought terrorists at the Nahal Oz outpost on October 7, saving 11 female soldiers before falling in battle at age 22.

The Nahal Oz outpost has become one of the symbols of the October 7 tragedy. Amid the murderous attack, as terrorists stormed the female soldiers' quarters and the bomb shelter from which the spotters were abducted, Captain Eden Nimri took command. Armed with her personal weapon, she and the female fighters alongside her neutralized a terrorist who had broken inside.
Fighting to the Last Breath
As additional terrorists continued to assault the area with gunfire and grenades, Eden remained to fight and delayed them, buying time for 11 female soldiers to escape and survive. Her family later pieced together her final moments from the testimonies of those who were with her that morning. The testimony that best illustrated her heroism came after the return from captivity of Liri Albag and Naama Levy, the spotters who were kidnapped from the shelter.
They felt a mission to come and tell us the story. They were attached to Eden. And when her ammunition ran out, terrorists entered and she fought them with her bare hands, literally drawing the fire to herself.
From Outstanding Athlete to Combat Commander
Even before her military service, Eden was an outstanding athlete. She was a competitive swimmer, participated in the European Youth Championships, and won the Israeli championship in 2019. Later, she chose to give up the track of an outstanding athlete to serve in a meaningful combat role. Since her fall, Eden's story has accompanied young women at the beginning of their path, with dozens of girls training for combat service participating in a march in her memory.
A Legacy of Courage and Sacrifice
Eden dreamed of traveling, building a home, and starting her post-army life. Those dreams were cut short that morning, but she left behind a family, soldiers whose lives were saved, and a legacy of leadership, courage, and sacrifice under fire. Captain Eden Nimri was only 22 years old when she fell.
