Former MK Emily Moati Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Ongoing Campaign
Former Knesset member Emily Moati publicly announced her breast cancer diagnosis, urging women to get tested and vowing to continue her political campaign undeterred.
Former Knesset member and "The Democrats" party candidate, Emily Moati, has publicly disclosed her battle with breast cancer. In a deeply personal statement, Moati revealed that she was diagnosed late last summer but chose to keep the news private to avoid public pity, urging supporters to refrain from sympathizing with her now.
Moati explained that public figures should hold themselves to higher standards of transparency, but emphasized her primary motivation: encouraging women to undergo medical screenings. Believing that saving even one life outweighs her personal privacy, she pledged to release a full medical report if elected to the Knesset, noting she has nothing to hide.
"The disease brings loneliness"
Sharing her feelings with rare candor, Moati admitted she has no uplifting or inspiring message to offer, describing herself as sad yet determined. She noted that the illness often brings loneliness and shame, extending her support to any woman facing a similar diagnosis to remind them they are not alone.
Despite the ordeal, Moati reassured the public that the most difficult part is behind her and her prognosis is good. Determined to continue serving the public, she instructed her campaign headquarters not to lighten her schedule, insisting that the work ahead remains critical.
Medical closure at Meir Medical Center
Concluding her announcement, Moati expressed profound gratitude to the breast health department at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, stating they saved her life 46 years after she was born in that very hospital. Moati previously served in the 24th Knesset for the Labor Party, famously arriving at the plenum on a stretcher to vote in favor of establishing the "Change Government" in 2021.
