Eilat Launches Major Coastal Revitalization and First-Ever Promenade Shading
Eilat is undergoing a massive coastal overhaul, featuring the first-ever promenade shading in 76 years, new squares, upgraded beaches, and continuous pathways.

Eilat's coastline and promenades are undergoing an extensive infrastructure transformation, highlighted by the installation of shading along parts of the promenade for the first time in 76 years. Development work has recently begun on the Sea Square at the North Promenade, located between the Mall Over the Sea and the Pninat Eilat center. Funded by the Ministry of Tourism and executed by Hali in collaboration with the municipality and designed by Meizits Kassif Ruitman Architects, the project is expected to take about a year and a half. It will feature a public square with a massive pergola, seating stands facing the sea, a water-jet plaza, and landscaped garden beds.
As part of the coastal upgrades, storm protection systems have been upgraded, and the boulder strip at the North Beach was removed to create an accessible, continuous walkway. Showers have been replaced, new changing rooms and restrooms installed, and modern lifeguard towers erected along designated beaches. A dramatic change has also occurred in the southern part of the gulf, where a new lifeguard station was established at Almog Beach, which will become a designated, supervised beach.
Extensive changes are also taking place in the commercial marina as part of a project to repair storm damage from 2020. The work includes constructing a pier entrance building, developing a public space with shaded seating areas, building new docks and a refueling station, and transforming the dirt lot between the marina and the Queen of Sheba promenade into an open space featuring an observation deck, seating areas, and the renovation of the Coal Bridge.
At the Pump Beach, work to preserve the pumping station is concluding alongside the establishment of a sports park. Development work will soon begin at the EAPC Beach and the separate Sun Bay Beach, featuring shading, accessible changing rooms, and scuba gear racks. At the Royal Beach Promenade, the renovation of a restroom and shower facility is being finalized.
Simultaneously, the Israel Ports Company is carrying out a project to create a continuous promenade in the port section, stretching from Dekel Beach to Dolphin Reef. The project, promoted with municipal encouragement, includes flattening a local hill to allow an unobstructed view of the gulf, paving walking and cycling paths, and installing fitness equipment and shading. This initiative joins planned collaborations with the Ministry of Defense and EAPC to open the coastline to the general public.
