An Egyptian citizen crossed the border fence from Egypt into Israeli territory overnight between Monday and Tuesday in the Nitzana sector and was detained by IDF forces. According to the military, the suspect was identified by surveillance units and transferred to security forces for questioning. The IDF stated that it views the incident with utmost severity and maintains high readiness in the sector.

This incident follows previous security events along the Egyptian border. On August 3, IDF forces and Border Police undercover units intercepted smuggling cells in two separate operations, seizing weapons, drugs, and a large drone suspected of facilitating cross-border trafficking. On September 29, 2025, military surveillance spotted at least two smugglers near the border, prompting a pursuit that ended when the suspects' vehicle overturned, resulting in one fatality and the escape of another accomplice.

In response to rising security challenges, Defense Minister Israel Katz previously instructed the IDF to designate the area adjacent to the border as a closed military zone following directives from Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir. Katz announced that rules of engagement would be adjusted, declaring a strict policy against unauthorized border incursions.
