IDF Egoz unit fighters engaged Hezbollah operatives in close-quarters combat on the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, newly released footage shows. Captain B., a company commander in the unit, was wounded during an exchange of fire from a distance of just a few meters after terrorists emerged from a tunnel shaft.
Ambush in the Thicket
The mission on the Ali Taher ridge initially aimed to install surveillance cameras following the demolition of local tunnels on July 30. However, after intelligence indicated that terrorists were attempting to exit due to a shortage of food and water, the operational plan was shifted to a sniper ambush.
Lieutenant Sh., a team commander in the unit, described the moments leading up to the clash:
After about fifteen minutes, I started hearing voices in Arabic. There is no wall separating you from the noises; you are simply inside the night. You can tell which direction they are coming from, but nothing beyond that.
Close-Range Firefight and Medical Treatment
Captain B. identified the terrorists at a distance of seven meters behind the trees. The terrorist who shot and wounded the commander attempted to escape back toward a tunnel shaft but was eliminated by the waiting sniper ambush. Amid heavy fire, paramedic Staff Sergeant Y. rushed to treat his wounded commander, applying a tourniquet and taking charge of the medical evacuation under fire.
Despite his injury, Captain B. continued to urge his fighters forward. Lieutenant Sh. assumed command of the force, and the mission was successfully completed last week when Egoz fighters demolished the remaining underground infrastructure across the entire ridge.
