Israel Warns IAEA That It Will Not Sit Idly By Amid Iran Nuclear Threat
Head of the Atomic Energy Commission Moshe Edri warned at the IAEA conference in Vienna that Israel will not remain idle regarding Iran's nuclear program, citing massive unmonitored enriched uranium stockpiles.
The head of the Atomic Energy Commission, Moshe Edri, warned that Israel cannot and will not sit idly by in the face of the Iranian nuclear threat. Speaking at the 70th General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna, Edri emphasized that Israel has acted to ensure its existence and will do so again if required.
IAEA Resolution and Iranian Violations
Edri pointed out that more than a year has passed since the IAEA Board of Governors determined that Iran is not complying with its safeguards agreement, yet Tehran has failed to take corrective action. Instead, Iran has dramatically deepened its violations, denying access to critical nuclear facilities and keeping over 9 tons of nuclear material outside agency oversight, including 440 kilograms of high-enriched uranium.
"The radical regime in Iran has not changed course, and it remains committed to expanding its missile capabilities and military nuclear capabilities," Edri stated.
Regional Aggression and Regional Security
Beyond the nuclear dossier, Edri highlighted Iran's broader aggression, including attacks against regional neighbors, disruption of freedom of navigation, and the use of proxies such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. He also recalled Israel's 2007 military action against the covert Syrian reactor in Deir ez-Zor, noting that decisive intervention prevented a hostile regional actor from acquiring military nuclear capabilities.
