Drama in Shas: Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's plan to announce he would not support the party in the elections
In a recording published this morning on Galei Tzahal, the plan that led to the thwarting of Rabbi Moshe Maya's appointment as the movement's spiritual leader was revealed. Rabbi Yosef threatened, Aryeh Deri delivered a letter and paved the way for reconciliation.
Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef was appointed as the spiritual leader of Shas through a letter signed by Rabbi Moshe Maya and delivered to Rabbi Yosef by Aryeh Deri. This morning, Wednesday, recordings of Rabbi Maya were revealed on Galei Tzahal, from which it emerges that the reconciliation was made to avoid an instruction from the son of the movement's founder, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, not to vote for the party: "We are in trouble, that he should not say not to vote for Shas. That he should not cause trouble."
Rabbi Moshe Maya, the elder of the Council of Torah Sages, revealed the behind-the-scenes of the dramatic reconciliation between Rabbi Yosef and Aryeh Deri: "Dudu Amsalem wrote that Rabbi Yosef would be president and brought it to me to sign — I erased it!"
Rabbi Maya addressed the desire to be appointed president of the Council of Torah Sages: "The presidency is nonsense. There is no presidency, period. He, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, knew all along that there is no presidency."
The Rabbi also told of the condition set by Rabbi Yosef's house for the reconciliation: exclusive participation in the movement's conference without the presence of other rabbis from the Council of Torah Sages.
