An unusual gesture: Parents of murder victim visit police station to thank investigators
The parents of Muhammad Mahamid, who was murdered months ago on his way to work, visited the Umm al-Fahm police station to thank officers for solving the case. Muhammad's mother stated: "I feared the case would end without arrests."
In a gesture rarely seen in Arab society, Mahmoud Mahamid and his wife arrived on Friday at the Umm al-Fahm police station to thank officers for solving the murder of their son, Muhammad, earlier this year. The parents requested to extend their gratitude to the commander of the Hof District Central Unit, Colonel Yoni Hagag, and his team of investigators.
The couple carried a sign reading: "Thank you to the Israel Police, the Umm al-Fahm station, and the Central Unit for the investigation that led to the arrest and the solving of our son's murder."
According to police, investigators successfully built an evidentiary case against three suspects: a 42-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm, a 23-year-old from the Bedouin community, and a minor. The case was solved despite deliberate attempts to obstruct the investigation, including the destruction of evidence and the cleaning of the crime scene. A prosecutor's statement was submitted to the court this week in preparation for formal indictments.
The parents met with the operations officer of the Umm al-Fahm station, Major Ramez Aram, and told him:
"We want to thank you with all our hearts for your work and the efforts you invested. The pain of losing our son remains immense, but the arrest of the suspects has eased our burden, knowing the criminals are behind bars. We came here to express our appreciation."
Major Ramez Aram offered his condolences to the family:
"We share in your deep sorrow. We took every necessary action to solve this murder, and we will continue to fight crime with determination. Your visit here is moving and provides us with the strength and motivation to continue our work."
Mahmoud Mahamid, the father, said:
"When we learned the police had arrested the suspects, we felt a heavy weight lifted. We have been through a very difficult period. While we have criticized the police in the past, after seeing the progress in this investigation, we felt it was our duty to come and thank them. I urge the police to continue acting decisively until every criminal who endangers lives is arrested."
Muhammad's mother added: "I feared the case would end without arrests, but thank God the murderers are now in prison, and that eases our pain a little. I do not know why they killed my son. His children still ask about him and wait for him to return."
