Disney+ is preparing for a significant service update in Israel: on September 9, 2026, the company will launch a new app to replace the one currently used by Israeli subscribers. Starting August 6, Disney began notifying customers about the transition, with further instructions to follow.
This change stems from the unique history of Disney+ in Israel. The service previously relied on an app separate from the global version, as it was powered by Hotstar, a Disney subsidiary. Consequently, the user experience in Israel was not always identical to that of international markets.
A major limitation was felt by Israelis traveling abroad, as the local Hotstar-based version was often unsupported outside the country. With the transition to the new app, Disney confirms that the service will be accessible during international travel, though the content catalog may vary based on the user's location.
The transition requires action from subscribers. Ahead of September 9, instructions for downloading the new app will be provided. Users will be able to log in with their existing accounts to set up new profiles. Please note that existing viewing history will not be transferred to the new platform.
Login methods may also evolve. Instead of relying solely on phone number verification, users may be required to use an email address and password.
