Prolonged daily interactions with customer service agents based on artificial intelligence (AI) may lead humans to adopt robotic communication patterns and become more predictable and less unique. In a new theoretical article published in the scientific journal AI & Society, an international team of researchers warns that as machines become more human-like, humans adapt to them and act in a way that makes it easier for the computer to process information.

Researchers from universities in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Denmark explain that this is a two-way influence. While robots are designed to mimic human gestures, language, and emotions to create identification, humans internalize the machine's response patterns. Out of an innate human instinct for mirroring and the desire to streamline the conversation, consumers tend to smooth out the unique edges of speech, reduce unexpected responses, and adapt themselves to algorithmic patterns.

Although the research relies on a theoretical model and has not yet been tested in long-term clinical trials, the researchers base their work on an extensive analysis of past studies in the field of human-machine communication. The main concern raised by the scientists is that the widespread use of robotic mediation systems has narrowed the space for human expression and will negatively affect how humans perceive and present themselves in the real world.

In the scientific community, it is emphasized that as the use of these technologies becomes an integral part of commercial companies and health systems, the importance of understanding the psychological implications increases. Researchers now estimate that identifying the trend is essential for business companies, with the goal of ensuring efficient and ethical use of technology without harming human uniqueness.
