Software engineer Brandon Thomas, formerly of Square, has announced an ambitious open-source project aimed at replicating the entire Adobe Creative Suite. Frustrated by Adobe's pricing models and controversial user interface patterns, Thomas utilized advanced artificial intelligence models to build open-source alternatives written in Rust.

Replicating Adobe's Flagship Tools

Among the newly introduced tools is Photocraft, an open-source alternative to Adobe Photoshop. Early testers report that while the software is currently in an extremely early alpha stage, the interface and core functionality closely resemble the industry standard. Thomas projects that within several months, the application will achieve a 90% capability match with Photoshop.

The AI gives us back our technology, and turns back the clock to before the crappy era we live in. Now you can create applications that are 1:1... nothing can stop you.

Economic Model and Future Outlook

To ensure the project's sustainability, Thomas plans to implement a token-based access model for AI integrations within ArtCraft and its accompanying integrated development environment. Additionally, a bug bounty program has been established to reward researchers who identify security vulnerabilities.

As the tech community watches closely, questions remain regarding how copyright holders and corporate legal teams will respond to these sweeping open-source replications.
