Soldiers report being filmed in base restrooms: IDF launches investigation
Soldiers claim they were filmed multiple times in base restrooms and that command failed to act. The IDF has launched a Military Police investigation, stating they view the incident with the utmost severity.
Soldiers serving in rear-echelon roles in the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade have reported repeated incidents of being filmed inside the base's restrooms. According to the soldiers, they noticed a hand holding a phone filming them from above through the restroom window on two separate occasions. In one instance, a soldier attempted to chase the suspect, but the individual managed to escape.
The soldiers claim that despite reporting the first incident to their commanders, the response was insufficient, leaving them feeling insecure on the base. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit stated on Thursday that a Military Police investigation has been opened, and findings will be transferred to the Military Advocate General upon its conclusion. The IDF emphasized that it views any sexual-based offense with the utmost severity.
One of the soldiers who filed the complaint spoke with N12:
"About a month ago, we moved to a new base. On the first day, around 2:00 AM, one of the soldiers in a stall heard a noise above her. She looked up and saw a hand holding a phone, filming her through the window."
She stated that the incident was not properly investigated. Ten days later, the soldiers blocked the window with a trash bag and tape, yet the same hand and phone appeared again.
"After the incident, they gathered all the soldiers on the base, and those responsible apologized to us. But even after the apology, and despite the severity of the incident, within a day or two, everything went back to normal, and nothing happened," she said.
The soldiers decided to turn to the media after realizing the issue was not being handled appropriately, stating that they are now afraid to walk around the base.
