David Moshevitz, Former Co-CEO of Elite, Passes Away at 80
David Moshevitz, former co-CEO of Elite and grandson of its founder, passed away at 80. He shaped Israel's food industry across five decades of service.

David Moshevitz, grandson of the founder of Elite and former co-CEO of the confectionery giant, has passed away at the age of 80. Moshevitz served as a board director for five decades, retiring just last year.
A Legacy in Industry
Moshevitz led Elite alongside Avi Philosoff for two decades. In an interview with Calcalist, Philosoff recalled:
David and I walked a long path together in work, companies, public activity, and national projects. Serving as co-CEOs of Elite was one of the greatest successes in Israel.
Philosoff noted that while conventional wisdom suggests two captains cannot steer a single ship, they proved otherwise: Moshevitz focused on marketing while Philosoff handled industry and development.
Historical Growth of Elite
Founded in 1933 in Ramat Gan by Eliyahu Fromchenko and partners, Elite grew through strategic acquisitions, including the Freeman jam factory, Z.D. in Nazareth, and a soluble coffee plant in Safed. In 1970, Elite merged with Lieber to become Israel's largest confectionery manufacturer. In 2004, Elite merged with Strauss Group, eventually leading to the integration of the iconic brand under the Strauss umbrella, where Moshevitz continued serving as a board member for 48 years until March of last year.
