Recently, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, exposed an archival photograph displayed in this exhibition that raises serious questions regarding the identity of the subjects and the UN's editorial choices.
Ambassador Danon's Discovery
Ambassador Danon spotted the photograph while walking past the exhibition after leaving a Security Council meeting. The image, captured during the establishment of the State of Israel, depicts children and adults gathered around a UN vehicle. The official UN caption states that "UN observers and the UN flag became well known to the children of Palestine since the late 1940s," yet it fails to identify the children, their origin, or the specific circumstances of the photograph.
"When I left a Security Council meeting, I walked by the exhibition and saw this picture," Ambassador Danon stated. "The caption does not explain who the children in it are, but the picture is presented as part of a very clear narrative that the UN has chosen to present to the public. If you recognize any of the children in the picture, contact us. We will verify the facts and demand that the UN present the full and accurate story to the public."
