His journey was temporarily put on hold at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland after the emergency escape slide suddenly deployed on the new "Air Force One" aircraft, which was recently gifted by Qatar.
According to a report by the Associated Press, Donald Trump arrived at the base via "Marine 1" but was forced to wait inside the helicopter for approximately 20 minutes while US Air Force crews addressed the incident. The emergency slide had inflated from the front right exit, on the opposite side of the door typically used by the president.
Aircraft History and Official Response
Reporters accompanying the president witnessed the older blue-and-white aircraft, which has transported commanders-in-chief for decades, taxiing from a hangar and stopping hundreds of feet behind the newly gifted plane. The Qatari aircraft was previously refurbished at the expense of US taxpayers and repainted in red, white, dark blue, and gold.
Eventually, Donald Trump exited the helicopter and claimed the deployment was merely a routine test. When asked about the malfunction, he stated:
"They want to make sure everything works perfectly."
It remains unclear whether the slide was inflated intentionally for inspection or triggered by a technical glitch, but the president expressed no concern. When asked if he felt safe flying on the aircraft, he replied that he was entirely confident.
