Irish MMA star Conor McGregor has announced that his next bout will be his final appearance in the UFC, signaling the end of his illustrious and turbulent career. Currently recovering from a severe knee injury sustained during his comeback fight against Max Holloway in July, the 38-year-old athlete plans to return in 2027 to honor the last fight on his contract.

McGregor's return in July ended abruptly after just 69 seconds when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during his opening kick against Holloway. This marked his second consecutive major injury in the Octagon, following a broken leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021. Despite his recent sporting struggles, including three consecutive defeats since his January 2020 victory over Donald Cerrone, McGregor remains a massive commercial draw.

Taking to social media, the former dual-division champion boasted about his unmatched pay-per-view pulling power, comparing his commercial dominance to boxing star Canelo Alvarez. McGregor headlined six of the highest-grossing pay-per-view events in UFC history, while his 2017 boxing match against Floyd Mayweather remains one of the most lucrative combat sports events ever.

While no official date or opponent has been set for his retirement bout, reports indicate that McGregor is targeting the UFC's International Fight Week in June 2027. Potential opponents under consideration include a trilogy fight against Holloway, a third meeting with Nate Diaz, or a crossover boxing match against British boxer Conor Benn.
