Coca-Cola Wins Major KFC Contract

Coca-Cola has surpassed PepsiCo in a high-stakes battle to supply soft drinks to more than 3,000 KFC restaurants across the United States. The decision ends a decades-long historical partnership between PepsiCo and the fast-food chain, marking a significant shift in the beverage and food industry.

The winner was decided following a competitive two-day tasting and pitch session at the headquarters of Yum! Brands, the parent company of KFC, located in Plano, Texas. Executives and franchise owners evaluated beverage samples from both corporate giants as KFC seeks to revitalize flagging domestic sales and boost profitability through enhanced beverage programs.

Logistics and Industry Impact

For Coca-Cola, which commands roughly 70% of the US fountain soft drink market by volume, securing the contract deals a heavy blow to its primary rival while expanding its fast-food footprint. PepsiCo, meanwhile, faces a tougher reality as its beverage division experiences a broader downward trend, making the loss of its former corporate subsidiary particularly painful.

The upcoming months will be critical as logistical operations shift, requiring the removal of thousands of PepsiCo beverage dispensers and the installation of Coca-Cola equipment between January and April.
