Ranking of the best countries for relocation: Panama and Mexico at the top

Relocation is an idea that often sounds particularly tempting, but it is worth considering that adapting to a new country is not always easy or fast. The InterNations website, intended for people who do not work in their country of origin, has ranked the ten most recommended countries for moving for work purposes. The ranking, published for the 13th year, was based on several factors, including quality of life, ease of adaptation, financial situation, and basic products such as housing and digital services.

Panama was ranked first, maintaining its place at the top for three years. 87% of employees on relocation in Panama reported that they are happy with life away from their country, compared to an overall rate of 70%. In addition, 90% said that it was easy to find housing and that their disposable income is enough to live a comfortable life.

Ariel Brinivio, who moved to Panama from Argentina eight years ago, told the BBC that since the move, he sleeps better and feels calmer and more relaxed.

"I realized it's because this place has a rhythm of its own," he said.

He further added that prices are cheaper in Panama and the economy is more stable.

Mexico was ranked second, thanks to the ease with which foreigners adapt to the country. 73% of respondents said it was easy for them to make new friends in Mexico, compared to an overall rate of 39%. "The pace of life here is slower, people are very friendly, and I enjoy learning about the history and culture and also enjoy the nature and green spaces," said an American who moved to Mexico. Besides the sense of community, many of those moving to Mexico noted the relatively low cost of living. However, one of the main disadvantages of Mexico is the safety index; in this category, the country was ranked 25th out of the 31 countries examined.

In third place is Thailand, where the happiest employees on relocation are found. The country also received a high score thanks to the low cost of living. "Thailand has maintained the unique characteristics of its culture, while having developed especially in the last decade in everything related to restaurants, parks, art galleries, and luxury malls," said Aaron Henry, who moved to Bangkok 11 years ago from Los Angeles.

The UAE is ranked fourth thanks to a high score in the career category and the ease with which one can obtain a visa. Brazil closes the top five, followed by Spain, Singapore, Portugal, Malaysia, and Luxembourg. Only 31 countries participate in the ranking, and Norway was ranked last. Above it, in 30th place, is Germany, and before it is Turkey.
