Ten babies in ten hours. One after another, five sets of twins were born this week at the Wolfson Medical Center, an unusual sequence of births that turned a routine day in the delivery rooms into an event that neither the staff nor the five families who returned home with double happiness will soon forget. Accompanying the sequence of births was Dr. Laura, one of the obstetricians at the facility. Even for her, after quite a few births, it was an exceptional moment.

"A very rare event, and this is the first time it has happened to me too," she said.

A shift unlike any other

Five sets of twins born in the same hospital within a few hours also require different medical preparation: more staff, care for some of the babies who needed special supervision, and guidance for five families who find themselves in one moment facing a new routine – double. For the parents, the realization that they were part of an event much larger than their own private birth came only gradually. One of the mothers said that only when she heard that more and more twins were being born in the adjacent rooms did she understand the magnitude of the coincidence: "Then I realized, besides us, four more sets of twins. What are the chances that I would be on the same day?"

Two babies – and the nights are also divided by two

After the excitement comes the new reality: two feedings, two changes, two babies who wake up at night, and two parents who need to learn very quickly to work as a team. One of the couples already sounded ready for the task. "Now we are both going to get up at night," they said, and added: "It requires cooperation, together. And we will do it together." If the five families already have one shared experience, perhaps soon there will also be a WhatsApp group. When asked what they would call it, the answer came immediately: "Ten in Ten."

"When I realized it was twins – it was a real shock"

Among the five families is also a single mother who chose to bring her daughters into the world alone and discovered along the way that she was not expecting one baby, but two. "When I realized it was twins, it was a real shock. I didn't expect it at all," she said. According to her, one of the first calls was to her sister, who immediately stepped in to help, and now the whole family is learning together what the new life looks like with two babies.

"Being on such a special day – it's really moving"

For Dr. Laura, who immigrated to Israel from Belgium, this day also took on personal meaning. "I am a new immigrant here, and being on such a special day… it's really moving, and I'm really happy," she said. In the complex Israeli reality, ten babies arriving into the world within a few hours are also a small moment of good news – one that reminds us that among all the headlines, life continues to begin. And for one of the families, this message was stated in the simplest way: "Bringing children into the State of Israel is something that is empowering, it is strong… With God's help, the people of Israel will be a strong people." They concluded the day with two words that almost asked for themselves: "Am Yisrael Chai."
