Trapped Cat Rescued Alive from Tomb in Polish Cemetery After Two Days
A cat trapped inside a tomb in a Polish cemetery was rescued alive after a two-day operation. Now named Duszek, the feline is recovering at a veterinary clinic.

A trapped cat was successfully rescued alive on Tuesday from inside a tomb at the municipal cemetery in Radom, Poland, following a two-day operation that began on Sunday. Visitors hearing faint meows from the grave alerted the municipal guard, initiating the rescue.
Rescuers, animal welfare activists, and members of the deceased person's family gathered at the site. The tomb was opened with the family's consent, but the frightened feline retreated deep into a cavity near the coffins and eluded capture, frustrating a second attempt the following day.
To avoid disturbing the coffins, rescuers placed a baited humane trap inside the structure. By Tuesday morning, the cat was safely inside the trap and was immediately transferred to a veterinary clinic for observation and a comprehensive health check.
According to Artur Kieraga of the municipal guard, a fallen tree had damaged the monument months earlier, creating a crack in the headstone. Authorities believe the cat slipped through the gap before repair work sealed the opening unnoticed.
Kieraga noted that despite spending several days trapped, the feline appeared in surprisingly good physical condition without signs of exhaustion or severe dehydration, though deeply frightened. Following his rescue, the cat was affectionately named Duszek, meaning "Ghost" in Polish.
