Good news for Noam Batan: The country that boycotted is considering returning to Eurovision 2027
Is the boycott surrounding Israel's participation coming to an end? Slovenia, which took an unequivocal political stance regarding Israel's participation, announced that it is currently examining the possibility of returning to the music events as early as next year.
Although Eurovision 2026 is behind us, following a large-scale boycott against the European Broadcasting Union due to Israel's participation, the question remains: is the boycott coming to an end?
As recalled, five countries withdrew from the competition this year due to Israel's participation: Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain. According to the regulations, the participation of three of them next year is in jeopardy, as they also decided not to broadcast the event.
However, following a dramatic change of government in Slovenia and the election of a pro-Israeli prime minister, the Slovenian television network RTV SLO confirms that its participation in Eurovision 2027 is being seriously considered. According to a report on the EuroMix website, the Eurovision fan site in Israel, the Slovenian communications department exclusively confirmed that the country's participation in the song contest to be held in Bulgaria is currently under review.
Final updates regarding Slovenia's decision are expected in the coming months as the network's 2027 work plan progresses.
As noted, the European Broadcasting Union's regulations include a rigid clause requiring any broadcaster wishing to participate to have aired the previous year's competition live. This rule has become a significant stumbling block for the countries that took an active stance, placing them in a difficult position ahead of the 2027 events.
