BlackRock and Ondo Finance have launched a new series of products called Ondo Intelligent Portfolios, offering three distinct investment strategies packaged into a single digital token operating on the blockchain.
Innovative Investment Strategies
According to Crypto Jungle reports, the concept is straightforward: instead of purchasing numerous assets, tracking them, and manually rebalancing them individually, investors hold a single token representing a diversified, complete investment portfolio. The three available tracks are Ondo High Income (BLKHIon), designed for high yields; Ondo Diversified Growth (BLKDIGon), targeting diversified growth; and Ondo High Growth (BLKGRWon), focused on high capital growth.
The rules governing asset allocation, automated periodic rebalancing mechanisms, and fee calculations are hardcoded into autonomous smart contracts. This infrastructure enables the minting or redemption of the tokens at any time, with portfolio holdings and transactions fully transparent on the blockchain.
DeFi Integration and Limitations
The portfolios hold Ondo Stocks—tokenized equities and ETFs backed by real financial assets held in custody. These tokens are transferable between wallets and can serve as collateral in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, perpetual futures trading (Perps), or yield-generating products.
The tokens do not confer direct ownership of the underlying securities, voting rights, or corporate information rights, and access is restricted to qualified investors in authorized jurisdictions outside the US.
Issued by Ondo Global Markets, an entity registered in the British Virgin Islands, the products are not registered under the US Securities Act. Following the announcement, the ONDO token surged by approximately 37% in September, trading at $0.49.
A New Paradigm in Tokenization
This move marks a significant evolution in tokenization approaches. While the initial phase focused on moving individual assets onto the network—such as equities, government bonds, and ETFs—this initiative utilizes the blockchain as infrastructure to distribute complete investment strategies.
Ultimately, BlackRock and Ondo are pioneering a model where an entire investment portfolio is tokenized, showcasing how smart contracts can autonomously manage allocation and rebalancing strategies on-chain.
