Court Releases Most Suspects in Binyamin Violence Case

Police Israel continues its investigation into the violent incidents in the Binyamin region last weekend, which included the assault on Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine and suspected attacks on foreign diplomats. Out of eleven suspects initially brought before the courts, the vast majority have been released, with only one suspect remaining in custody as of Wednesday.

During Wednesday hearings, the court ordered four suspects sent to house arrest until October 29, while the detention of a fifth suspect was extended until October 26. However, the Police Israel indicated it objects to one of the releases, requesting a stay of execution with plans to appeal the decision. Earlier in the proceedings, other detainees were freed after police verified an alibi or following standard officer-led releases, while a formal indictment was filed against a Samaria resident in his twenties.

"They jumped me. I saw at least 25, maybe 50 people at first, and found myself on the ground as they kicked me for about 10 minutes," Heidi Levine recounted.

Investigation and Details of the Attack

The central investigation is being conducted by the Central Unit of the Judea and Samaria Police District, operating in coordination with the Shin Bet and Border Police forces. The case stems from the severe confrontation in an olive grove near the village of Abu Falah in the Ramallah area.

Levine described the harrowing moments of the assault, noting how protective gear saved her from worse injuries despite being heavily outnumbered. Local Palestinians ultimately intervened and rescued her from the scene. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the complex investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to bring all responsible parties to justice.
