Former Education Ministry Director-General Ben-Zion Dell Dies at 86
Ben-Zion Dell, former director-general of Israel's Ministry of Education and a prominent educator, has died at 86. He is remembered for advancing equal educational opportunities.
Ben-Zion (Bentzi) Dell, a prominent educator, jurist, and former director-general of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport, has passed away at the age of 86. His funeral is scheduled for midnight at the cemetery in the moshav of Nehalim.
Dell served as director-general of the ministry from 1996 to 1999, during the terms of Education Ministers Zevulun Hammer and Yitzhak Levy under the first government of Benjamin Netanyahu. Throughout his tenure, he championed pedagogical and organizational initiatives aimed at promoting equal educational opportunities and strengthening ties to Jewish and Israeli identity.
Alongside his ministry role, Dell held numerous public and voluntary positions. He served as chairman of the board of directors for the Givat Washington Educational Center and the Mizmor School of Music, and sat on the boards of leading academic and cultural institutions, including Sha'ari Law and Science College, Orot Israel College, and the Cameri Theatre in Tel Aviv.
