Yom Kippur 2026: Public Transportation Schedules and Service Changes
Public transportation in Israel will halt gradually ahead of Yom Kippur on September 20-21, with services resuming on Tuesday morning, September 22.
Ahead of Yom Kippur, which begins on Sunday evening, September 20, and ends on Monday evening, September 21, passengers planning to use public transportation must prepare for scheduled changes. Services will gradually shut down ahead of the fast, and regular operations will only resume after the holiday concludes.
Light rail operations are expected to stop around 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Yom Kippur eve. Services will gradually resume around 9:30 PM on Monday evening, though the return to full schedules will be phased across all lines.
Urban and intercity bus networks will also halt operations gradually, mostly between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Passengers are advised to check specific schedules in advance as departure times vary by route.
Israel Railways will operate enhanced services until 1:00 PM based on Friday timetables, including two trains per hour on the Haifa-Tel Aviv line and service between Hadera East and Rosh HaAyin North. No trains will operate on Monday night, with normal service resuming on Tuesday morning, September 22.
