Massive Forest Fire Sweeps Ben Shemen Area as Crews Battle Blaze
A massive forest fire swept through the Ben Shemen Forest on Wednesday, prompting nationwide firefighting reinforcements, highway closures, and the evacuation of 400 hikers.

A massive forest fire broke out in the Ben Shemen Forest area on Wednesday, spreading rapidly eastward driven by strong winds. The blaze originated in an open area near the Hadid cemetery, jumped Route 444, and advanced toward Route 1 and Route 6.
In response to the escalating emergency, Fire and Rescue Commissioner Eyal Caspi ordered nationwide reinforcements, deploying some 50 additional firefighting teams from across all districts to the scene. Ground crews and six firefighting planes from the Elad squadron are operating intensively to contain the fire front and protect nearby areas.
Police closed Route 444 in both directions near the Ben Shemen Interchange due to heavy smoke and flames, while traffic restrictions and temporary closures were also implemented on parts of Route 6. Authorities have evacuated approximately 400 hikers from the forest and the Neot Kedumim area.
Emergency services have urged the public to stay away from the affected highway sections, warning drivers of severe visibility hazards and heavy traffic congestion. Firefighting and police forces continue their extensive operations to secure the perimeter and extinguish the active fronts.
