Ben Gurion Airport Parking Lots Full Amid Severe Holiday Congestion
Ben Gurion Airport parking lots are fully packed during the Tishrei holidays, prompting authorities to urge public transit use amid major flight delays.
Ben Gurion Airport authorities announced today (Sunday) that parking lots are completely full and currently have no available spaces. Passengers and greeters are strongly urged to avoid driving to the airport in private vehicles and to use public transit instead.
Flight Delays and Terminal Congestion
The parking crunch is symptomatic of severe congestion throughout the airport, where average flight delays over recent days have reached 63 minutes. Major carriers experiencing significant delays include Israir, Delta Air Lines, El Al, and Blue Bird. Delays have stretched up to five hours and twenty minutes, with several other flights delayed by more than three hours.
"We advise all travelers to rely on public transportation until further notice regarding parking availability," stated airport representatives.
Heavy Holiday Traffic
Airport authorities attribute the severe congestion to the surge in passenger volume during the Tishrei holiday season. Flight operations remain extremely high, with 591 departures and landings scheduled for today alone. Terminal congestion forecasts indicate conditions will worsen, as 160 out of 308 departures are already leaving more than 15 minutes behind schedule.
Passengers are facing long lines not only for parking, but also at check-in counters, security screening, and baggage claim areas. Authorities have not yet indicated when parking capacity will normalize.
